The Cobb State Court Clerk's Office at 12 East Park Square takes passport applications from Nov. 2, weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., by appointment only.

People in Marietta will be able to apply for a U.S. passport on the Square from Monday, Nov. 2.

The Cobb County State Court Clerk’s Office is opening a passport acceptance facility at its office at 12 East Park Square. The U.S. Department of State has designated the office to take applications. Cobb County announced the service Friday.

The details

  • Where: Cobb County State Court Clerk’s Office, 12 East Park Square, first floor
  • When: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting Nov. 2
  • Appointments: required. The county said no walk-ins will be accepted.
  • One appointment per person: each applicant needs a separate appointment, including children.
  • Photos: bring one recent passport photo for each applicant. The office does not take photos on site, its passport page says.

Who can apply there

The office takes applications from people who have to apply in person, the county said. That covers:

  • adults getting their first passport
  • children under 16
  • others the State Department requires to apply in person

The State Department sets the rules on who must apply in person and lists them at travel.state.gov.

The application form is the DS-11. The clerk’s office has paper copies, its passport page says.

“Bringing passport services to the Cobb County State Court Clerk’s Office is about more than expanding the services we provide. It’s about making government more accessible, convenient, and responsive to the needs of our community,” Clerk of State Court Tahnicia Phillips said in the county’s announcement. “We want to make the process of obtaining a passport easier and closer to home.”

What the office does not decide

The clerk’s office only accepts applications. The State Department processes and issues passports and sets the fees and processing times. The county said the office has no say over how long a passport takes.

Other places in Cobb

Two Cobb County Public Library branches already take passport applications for first-time adults and children under 16, the county said:

What it means for you

  • If you have a trip coming up, book early. The service starts Nov. 2, and the office will not see anyone without an appointment.
  • Before you go, check the State Department’s list of documents: proof of U.S. citizenship, acceptable identification, the DS-11, the photo and the fees. The county asked applicants to review the requirements, identification, payment methods and fees before they arrive.
  • Get your photo first. The clerk’s office cannot take it for you.
  • Bookings and details are on the State Court Clerk’s passport page.
