Fewer and shorter outages ahead
On Oct. 2, the U.S. Department of Energy’s assistant secretary for electricity toured Marietta Power to mark a grid modernization project, the city said. The $3,962,519 project installs remote-controlled switches that detect a fault, isolate it and reroute power around it automatically. A $2,659,031 federal award, administered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, paid for most of it, and the city covered the remaining $1,303,488. The city says the system is projected to cut local outage minutes by more than half.
