How admission works

The school’s applications page says students who live inside the Marietta city limits, and non-residents who meet the criteria, may apply. An applicant needs 75 of 100 points:

  • MAP test scores of “75% or higher” in reading or math, worth up to 25 points each
  • a writing sample, worth up to 25 points
  • a STEAM rubric, worth up to 25 points

The writing sample and STEAM rubric take place in the fall and winter. Only current MCAA siblings get priority. When the school is full, it keeps separate waitlists for in-district and out-of-district applicants, with in-district applicants first. Students must keep a 3.0 grade point average in all subjects to stay in the program.

MCAA does not take the district’s elementary school choice applications, according to the district’s charter system page.

Enrollment and teachers

  • Federal count: 295 students in the 2023-24 school year, with 19 full-time-equivalent teachers, according to the NCES directory. That works out to about 16 students per teacher.
  • State count: 273 students in the state’s 2025 School Grades report, compared with 299 in 2024 and 315 in 2023.

State report card

Georgia grades schools with the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), which the Georgia Department of Education calls “Georgia’s annual tool for measuring how well schools, districts, and the state are preparing students for the next educational level,” according to its accountability page. Scores run from 0 to 100. Georgia does not issue letter grades.

Report year CCRPI score
2025 99.8
2024 96.9
2023 99.3

The 2025 score breaks down into content mastery 100, progress 100, closing gaps 100 and readiness 99.1, each a component score out of 100. In reading, 93.9% of third graders and 95.7% of fifth graders scored at or above the midpoint of the state’s grade-level Lexile range.

Georgia Milestones, 2025 end-of-grade tests (share of tested students at the proficient and distinguished levels):

Subject Proficient Distinguished
English language arts 39% 53%
Math 34.1% 63.3%
Science (fifth grade) 48.9% 38.3%

See the full report on the state’s School Grades page for MCAA or on GaDOE’s CCRPI reporting site. Both are interactive dashboards; the figures above come from the state’s downloadable data file.

Zone and next schools

MCAA has no attendance zone. A student who leaves the magnet program goes back to the zoned elementary school for their address, which the City of Marietta’s property search tool shows.

The district’s charter system page lists one sixth grade academy, one middle school and one high school, so MCAA students go on to the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy, then Marietta Middle and Marietta High.

We found no rezoning approved by the Board of Education that affects the school.
