Registering a student
Register online through the district’s Aspen registration portal. The district’s registration page lists what to bring:
- a birth certificate (a copy is fine)
- proof of your relationship to the child, such as a birth certificate, adoption decree or guardianship order
- Georgia Form 3300 (hearing, vision, dental and nutrition screening) for kindergarten, new first graders and students new to Georgia
- Georgia Form 3231 (immunizations) for kindergarten, sixth grade and students new to Georgia
- discipline and grade records for grades 6 to 12
- proof of residency: a lease or deed or property tax statement, plus a current utility bill
Children must be 5 by Sept. 1 to start kindergarten and 6 by Sept. 1 to start first grade in a Georgia public school.
School choice and the magnet school
The district’s choice program lets a student attend a different elementary school from the one they are zoned for, if there is room. The application window runs Sunday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, Nov. 15. It is not first-come, first-served. Families learn the result the Friday before winter break. Current choice students must return the enrollment agreement to their school in the same window or go back to their zoned school.
The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics is a STEAM magnet school with its own application. Families who live outside the district can apply to the non-resident tuition program; new students apply Feb. 1 to 15.
Calendar and board meetings
The district posts the school year, holidays and early-release days on its school calendar, which can be filtered by school. Testing dates are in the 2026-27 assessment calendar (PDF).
The Board of Education has seven members, one for each city ward, and meets at 250 Howard St. The board chair is Jaillene Hunter (Ward 4) and the vice chair is Angela Orange (Ward 5). Coming meetings from the board’s approved calendar:

Ratings and test scores
Georgia publishes school and district results through the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement’s Georgia K-12 report card, including test scores, graduation rates and the state’s College and Career Ready Performance Index. Search for “Marietta City” to see the district and each school. We do not rank schools; the state report card is the official record.
